Multi-million Rand HQ, Melrose Arch
Katsha Debank is a self-made Ugandan billionaire, investor, real estate developer, IT expert, and space system engineer who has built a diversified multinational empire spanning across Uganda, South Africa, and beyond.
Born in Uganda, Katsha moved to South Africa at the age of 19 after his mother decided to relocate the family during his teenage years. He left his family behind to pursue his dream of starting a new life, though the transition came with a significant culture shock for the young man.
His father had left years earlier to fight in an Islamic holy war and never returned. While the rest of the family presumed he had died, Katsha held onto the belief that his father was still alive, as there was no grave to visit.
Before the move, life was already difficult. Katsha, his mother, brother, and sisters lived in a small two-bedroom house in Bbunga-Kawuku and were barely getting by. The true turning point came when his mother was scammed by gold fraudsters, leading to her losing her job and declaring bankruptcy.
The path that built an empire
Left family behind to pursue a new life, facing significant culture shock and financial hardship.
Secured an opportunity to study IT and Space Engineering in Russia through a friend.
Started an internet connectivity company serving underserved communities as a Telkom reseller.
Vodafone South Africa (Vodacom) acquired Katsche Technologies, validating his vision.
Executives from Vodafone South Africa learned about Katsha's pioneering use of mobile router technology. The result? A $3 million USD acquisition of Katsche Technologies. This was far more than a transaction; it was profound validation of his idea, perseverance, and skills. The capital from that deal served as the essential launchpad for everything that followed.
A diversified portfolio of 15+ businesses across Africa
Many of these initiatives in Uganda are currently underway discreetly. When the time is right, I look forward to unveiling these projects to the people of Uganda and revealing my ownership of these companies, which many may already know without knowing the individual behind them.
